Henry previews the San Francisco Black & White Ball charity gala event.
Speaker 1 00:01 Every year, every two years rather, San Francisco goes monochromatic. Speaker 1 00:08 Everybody's wearing black and white. Very odd. Speaker 1 00:11 It is the San Francisco black and white ball every couple of years. Speaker 1 00:14 This was 2010. Speaker 1 00:16 The 2012 event is almost upon us. Speaker 1 00:21 And let me introduce you to the woman who is the hardest working woman in the Bay Area, Speaker 1 00:26 at least when it comes to this entertainment, Patricia Sprintson. Speaker 1 00:30 is the chairwoman. Congratulations, I think, on having that job. So tell folks what's going to Speaker 1 00:35 be happening for the ball this year. The date is, of course, June 2nd. That's right. And we are so Speaker 2 00:41 excited. This year, we're celebrating our 100th anniversary at the symphony. And so it is the Speaker 2 00:48 centennial year. And I tell everyone, you probably aren't going to see a black and white ball like Speaker 2 00:52 this for another 100 years. So this is the one. We are going to have an incredible lineup. The Speaker 1 00:59 is amazing. I will say that this isn't just a this isn't Speaker 1 01:03 just blowing smoke. Paul Simon? Yes, yes, Paul Simon in Speaker 2 01:08 concert and for the first time ever, uh we are going to have Speaker 2 01:11 the San Francisco Symphony playing with our concert Speaker 2 01:15 artists. So you'll not only see Paul Simon on Davie Symphony Speaker 2 01:19 Hall, you'll hear the San Francisco Symphony playing with Speaker 1 01:22 him. And that is that is going to be fabulous because he's the Speaker 1 01:25 kind of musician that could work so well with so many Speaker 1 01:27 different ensemble. Yes. Style. Uh other performers uh Cindy Speaker 1 01:32 Lauper you've got Janelle Monnet. The Wallflowers uh Speaker 2 01:37 we'll have the Drifters. We're actually celebrating the uh Speaker 2 01:41 decades because the ball was started in 1956 and so we're Speaker 2 01:46 celebrating 50s, 60s, 70s. So we have the Drifters. Uh we have Speaker 2 01:51 DJ Masonic and so I think there will be something for Speaker 1 01:54 everybody's taste. For everybody, no matter what your age. Now, food and drink were always a big Speaker 1 02:00 deal for the black and white ball and that's not an exception this year. That's right. We have Speaker 2 02:05 partnered with Dan McCall for many years and top catering. The food and the drink in itself would Speaker 1 02:14 be a party all in its own. Like barbecue pits or something? Yes, special design barbecue pits that Speaker 2 02:20 will be up and down vaness and grove we'll close a portion of the civic center area and have city Speaker 2 02:28 hall will be involved fireworks it's it's going to be an extravaganza this year right uh you know Speaker 1 02:34 this video i rarely say this this video does not reflect the black and white ball i gotta tell you Speaker 1 02:40 folks it's a lot more exciting than it looks there there's dancing in the streets fabulous music so Speaker 1 02:45 So what is it? Ten bands, five stages. Pretty amazing. Speaker 1 02:49 And it's all happening June 2nd. Speaker 1 02:53 And it's happening all over the Civic Center. Speaker 1 02:56 I guess it's not really the Civic Center. You call it War Memorial. Speaker 1 02:58 War Memorial. Speaker 1 03:00 And you can get tickets by going to the San Francisco Symphony website, sfsymphony.org. Speaker 1 03:08 And there are various levels of tickets. Speaker 1 03:11 But the party goes on for many, many hours. Speaker 1 03:13 So it's really a good value in terms of where you get food, drink, and entertainment. Speaker 2 03:17 Yes, and it benefits the Bay Area Education Program. Speaker 2 03:21 75,000 children in the Bay Area getting the benefit of the education programs. Speaker 2 03:27 And this is why we have the black and white ball is to raise the money for the education programs. Speaker 1 03:31 And thank you for your work on it, Patricia. Speaker 2 03:33 Thank you, Henry. Speaker 1 03:34 It's going to be a great event. Speaker 1 03:35 Looking forward to it.
