That is so cool.

00:01
You know, we've been doing segments about plantation shutters for a while now.

00:05
I've never seen something like this.

00:07
Tiny little shutters, perfect.

00:08
You can check, see who's outside the door, and you can have complete privacy if you want.

00:13
What a great idea.

00:14
So plantation shutters, small, big windows, doors.

00:18
We are in a beautiful home located in Livermore.

00:22
Brand new home.

00:23
And what they added to an already beautiful architectural style was these plantation shutters.

00:29
And look what it does to the home.

00:31
It adds an architectural element, adds all of these beautiful lines, and yet it opens

00:36
up the whole room.

00:37
And you can do that for the windows.

00:39
These for example, you've got French doors, swing out with the shutters.

00:44
This is the sort of thing that you really couldn't possibly do with the curtains or

00:48
with blinds.

00:49
And something like this upgrades an older house as well because it gives it this clean, modern

00:56
look that is really quite beautiful.

00:58
I'm actually, I'm pretty well sold on these plantation shutters.

01:02
They were actually invented way back 19th century in the southeast,

01:07
where it would get hot in the summer, cold in the winter.

01:10
And what they do is they provide insulation.

01:13
So that was the first use for it, terrific insulation.

01:15
But then what they discovered is that they also add light to a room.

01:19
And of course, they've got all this elegance.

01:21
So as you can see in this home, they've used this style in many different ways

01:27
to add the extra light.

01:29
Now, obviously, the insulation makes a big difference, too.

01:33
It's sort of a multipurpose function,

01:36
and nobody can speak better to that

01:39
than the president of Bayhoman Window Factory Direct Shutter Source.

01:41
Can I give you a round of applause, please, for Jeff Falcon?

01:44
Thank you very much.

01:44
Yes, yes, yes.

01:46
Nice to have you here with us.

01:48
That's true.

01:48
Yeah.

01:49
Yes, that's right, they are.

01:53
A place like this, they could have done,

01:56
They could have done blinds.

01:57
They could have done curtains.

01:59
So what's the difference?

02:01
Well, shutters do three things in a home that most window coverings just simply can't do.

02:05
Number one, architecturally, it opens up a room like nothing else really can by adding sculpture and light to the room.

02:11
Number two, they add a lot of insulation.

02:13
And I think the reason that people really like them is that they're just stunning.

02:16
They're beautiful.

02:17
And they're flexible.

02:18
And by the way, they're fun to play with, too.

02:19
I love that little installation at the front door.

02:23
It's nice to be able to close it off.

02:24
You've never seen anything like that before.

02:26
Very cool.

02:28
If people are interested in something like this, what do they need to know about plantation shutters?

02:32
Well, I think the most important things that people need to understand about shutters is,

02:35
number one, they come in different material types,

02:37
and understanding which type is best for them is very, very important.

02:40
Number two, even the different material types come in different construction grade levels and quality.

02:44
And having a customer understand what those differences are and what they mean in their environment is critical, I think.

02:51
The other thing is having a salesman and an installer and a company that understands what the options are and what works best for any given environment.

02:59
Absolutely.

03:00
Now, obviously, you've got a lot of different kinds of windows that you can deal with.

03:05
It's not just the nice, handy rectangles.

03:08
Let's take a look at some of them.

03:09
Well, we can do any shape, any size window.

03:12
Arch windows are absolutely stunning with shutters.

03:14
Boy, look at that.

03:15
Gorgeous.

03:15
It makes a big difference.

03:17
Bathrooms can be done, almost any kind of room, any shape, even doors and patio.

03:23
And they don't have to be white, right?

03:24
No, they come in stained, they come in all kinds of different shapes, so they can be used in absolutely any circumstance.

03:30
And, of course, one of the best applications is doors, because that's a case where really blinds are...

03:37
Blinds don't work well indoors.

03:38
Yeah, ugly, and curtains don't work well, so come on over here.

03:41
This is just a good little example.

03:42
Well, this is an example of a French door, and what's nice about shutters over any other type of window,

03:47
covering is that when you use a plantation shutter on a French door it becomes part of the door

03:51
it architecturally keeps the look that was designed to be in the house yeah and of course

03:58
you also get that extra added element when you're ready to have some privacy you get this so close

04:02
many different kinds of doors that you deal with yeah well French doors are very very popular but

04:07
so are sliding glass doors and it's hard to find a window covering that works really well as sliding

04:11
glass doors so in a French door situation not only does it become part of the door but it doesn't

04:15
slam around like other types of window coverings.

04:18
- This is me dancing with one of their customers.

04:21
There was a pretty good dance we had there.

04:24
And that would be a bypass door for slide doors.

04:26
- Yes, a triple door if you have any kind of architecture

04:29
in the door works very, very well.

04:31
- So you get to exercise a fair bit of creativity

04:33
when you're designing these.

04:34
These are especially wider than most doors

04:37
that I think of slide doors.

04:38
- Well, this is a typical eight foot door

04:40
and more and more homes have eight foot

04:41
even wider type of doors.

04:42
And you know, the vertical blinds that get all messed up

04:45
to control just don't work well on these types of doors. But shutters actually become part of the

04:51
door. They allow you so many different moods and they work so simply, simply by closing the louvers.

04:57
You can shut everybody out. When you want to open it all the way up, you simply do this. And it works

05:01
very nicely, doesn't it? Wow. So you completely, you can clear out a large space and get a good look.

05:06
You can indeed, yes. And then it's easy enough to just slide it back in like so. Right. And there

05:10
are other ways you can do a door. This is a sliding system, but there are folding systems that have

05:14
all the panels fold completely off the door

05:16
on a track system as well.
