00:01
Excuse me, sir.

00:01
Hello, can you please?

00:03
Yeah.

00:04
Oh, thank you so much.

00:07
That's what it takes to get...

00:08
Wait, wait, wait.

00:08
Get to my hat to me.

00:09
Hmm?

00:10
Throw my hat to me.

00:10
Throw your hat to you.

00:12
Back up, back up, back up, back up.

00:15
Wow, in the wind, no less.

00:17
Yes, thank you.

00:19
So, this is...

00:20
Hey, let's go to my sister.

00:21
This is Nino.

00:22
I'm Nino.

00:23
And Nino is, well, he's a clown.

00:26
Yes.

00:26
But Nino is a special kind of clown,

00:28
Because Nino is a clown in the tradition of the Italian Family Circus.

00:32
And the Zope Italian Family Circus is in town performing.

00:35
Take a break, Nino.

00:36
And we have with us Tosca, Tosca Zope of the family.

00:40
And by the way, Nino happens to also be in the family.

00:43
Yes, unfortunately.

00:44
So tell us about what the Zope Family Circus is and about this tradition of the family circus.

00:48
Well, our family started...

00:49
We've got some video, by the way.

00:51
Excellent.

00:52
We started in 1842 with a French clown and a Hungarian equestrian and ballerina.

00:56
They fell in love and immigrated to Italy.

00:58
and started our family circus.

01:00
The things that are different about our show is that it's a very intimate environment.

01:04
When you come to our show, you really become part of our family.

01:08
And that's what we want. We want you to feel everything.

01:12
The characters are a little different. I mean, it has a different feel and it looks like it

01:17
follows a tradition that goes back a ways. This concept of the Italian circus or the European

01:22
circus.

01:22
It's a very old style circus. It's very traditional. All of our acts are very

01:28
traditional acts, nothing new, nothing modern.

01:31
It goes back to the simplicity of performing and really giving your soul to the audience.

01:37
Right.

01:39
And the tent is fabulous, by the way.

01:41
Oh, it's beautiful.

01:42
They bring in their own tent.

01:43
Brand new tent.

01:44
It's gorgeous, yes.

01:45
And you guys, it is your tent?

01:48
I mean, it was designed by your family?

01:49
Oh, yes.

01:50
It was designed by my father and my brother.

01:52
How long have you been doing this?

01:54
Since I was before I could walk.

01:56
Really?

01:57
Yes.

01:58
Yes.

01:58
So there still are families that do this?

02:02
Absolutely.

02:02
My nephew is now two, and he was born in Redwood City, actually.

02:07
And he started performing that week in Redwood City was his first performance.

02:12
The week that he was born?

02:13
The week that he was born.

02:14
He came in the ring with us, and he balanced on my brother's hand.

02:19
That's fabulous.

02:21
Let me introduce you to one other person here.

02:24
Nate, come on over.

02:25
I've got to come up.

02:26
No, you've got to keep juggling while you do this, Nate.

02:28
So Nate literally ran away with the circus.

02:31
Can you tell us about that?

02:34
Yeah, I just graduated from high school in 2010 and just kind of ran away.

02:39
And you decided to just go be part of the circus, and so what have you done so far?

02:45
I've been juggling for the last year and just working on the show.

02:49
It's been a really great experience.

02:50
I've got to travel all over the country.

02:52
Right, and it's a lot of fun.

02:54
What did you do?

02:55
What happened recently for you to get here?

02:57
It was a big deal for you to get here, right?

02:59
I just flew for the first time.

03:01
Normally we drive everywhere.

03:03
It was the first time that you'd flew.

03:05
So this is a wonderful opportunity.

03:07
Great experience.

03:07
So I have to ask you, so you're always obviously looking for new talent, I guess.

03:13
Of course.

03:14
Yes.

03:14
Like me.

03:15
I'm a beautiful talent.

03:17
And what is his role?

03:20
You don't know.

03:22
What is his role?

03:23
Well, sister and brother.

03:24
What is the job of the...

03:27
I think that our jobs, Nino and I, are really portraying our family history and our heritage and bringing that out of our souls.

03:35
We really want people to understand who we are and where we came from.

03:39
And I think that's what we do.

03:41
So I've got to ask, are you guys recruiting?

03:44
No, we are not recruiting.

03:46
And I must say, if you're out there watching, not everyone can just get up and run away and join the circus.

03:53
Nate was an exception.

03:54
He's actually been juggling since he was probably eight, nine years old.

03:59
He didn't just start juggling.

04:01
He's a very good juggler.

04:02
And his family was not upset that he ran away with the circus.

04:04
No, no, no, no, no, not at all, not at all.

04:06
So I have to ask you, what kind of talents, what kind of skills do you require to do your job?

04:12
I don't know.

04:13
Other than having that nose job.

04:15
Watch, I can do magic.

04:16
Okay, please.

04:18
Watch carefully, ladies and gentlemen.

04:20
Poof!

04:22
Oh, can I get some applause, please?

04:24
No, you couldn't get any applause.

04:27
Okay, let me tell folks where they can find the Zope Family Circus.

04:33
And, you know, unfortunately, we couldn't get, you know, the horses and we couldn't get the whole staff here.

04:40
But we did manage to get enough to give you a flavor of the circus.

04:43
And it is happening in Redwood City.

04:46
They've set up their tent right in downtown at Middlefield Road.

04:50
And you can get more information by going to the website redwoodcity.org slash events.

04:58
Or you can call 650-780-7586.

05:03
They are here through October 23rd.

05:07
So you have lots of chances.

05:09
And people, they've been coming here for many years.

05:11
And people have really come to love them.

05:13
Thank you very much, Nate.

05:14
You're fabulous.

05:15
You've got a great future career in front of you.

05:17
And you, sir, you're going to have to leave now.

05:20
We'll be back with more Quran 4 News.
